| Additional information |
Mongolia issued a series of fine silver coins featuring native fauna of the Central Asian steppe, and the Campbell's dwarf hamster — Phodopus campbelli — is among the more scientifically specific choices in that run, named after the British explorer W.C. Campbell who collected the type specimen in Mongolia in 1902. These coins were struck for the collector market and saw no domestic circulation.
