| Additional information |
Kazakhstan's lunar series coins are struck at the Kazakhstan Mint in Ust-Kamenogorsk, one of the few sovereign mints in Central Asia capable of producing fine gold collector issues to .9999 purity. The 2017 Rooster issue corresponds to the Kazakh celebration of Nauryz, the Persian new year observed across Central Asia on the spring equinox — a holiday that was banned under Soviet rule and only formally reinstated in Kazakhstan in 1988.
