Part of Kazakhstan's ongoing "Golden Ornaments" series, this issue draws on the Saka culture — nomadic tribes of the Eurasian steppe whose elaborate animal-style goldwork was excavated in burial mounds across what is now southeastern Kazakhstan. The "Golden Man" warrior discovered at Issyk in 1969, interred with thousands of gold plaques depicting precisely the kind of deer imagery referenced here, became a national symbol after independence and directly inspired this commemorative program.
The partial gilding applied over .925 silver was a deliberate choice to replicate the visual contrast of ancient cloisonné and inlaid metalwork.
