Obverse description Central to the obverse is a large right-facing bust of Miriam Makeba, rendered in high relief, with her characteristic natural hair and a decorative pendant earring. To the left of the bust, a traditional African female dancer in ceremonial grass costume is depicted in full figure, carrying a bundle of reeds or straw on her back. To the right, two seated or crouching musicians playing traditional instruments complete the scene. The whole composition rests on a tiled floor, framing an image of African cultural heritage. The legend REPUBLIQUE DE GUINEE arcs along the upper periphery, while MIRIAM MAKEBA appears in the lower field, with a serrated border encircling the entire design.
