Additional information

Ghana's Golden Jubilee issue commemorates Elizabeth II's fifty years on the throne, but it also quietly marks Ghana's own identity as a republic that had shed the Crown decades earlier — the country became a republic in 1960, yet maintained Commonwealth ties that kept such commemorative issues commercially viable. The Sika denomination itself was reintroduced in 1999 as part of Ghana's broader currency restructuring before the cedi redenomination of 2007 rendered it short-lived.
