| Obverse description | The obverse features the Somali national coat of arms at center, depicting a heraldic shield with horizontal stripes and a central five-pointed star, supported on either side by two leopards rampant. Below the shield, a scroll and crossed palm fronds complete the device. The legend SOMALI REPUBLIC arcs along the upper periphery, with the date numerals 20 and 17 flanking the arms at left and right respectively. The denomination 500 SHILLINGS is inscribed along the lower rim, and a fine beaded inner border frames the composition. |
