Obverse description Central field displays the denomination '500 SCHILLING' within a circle of ten heraldic shields representing Austria and its nine federal states. The legend 'REPUBLIK ÖSTERREICH' is arranged around the periphery, separated by decorative dots. The design is characteristic of Edwin Grienauer's standard arms-type obverse used for Austrian commemorative coinage of this era.
