Reverse description The reverse displays a multi-armed deity — identified as Lakshmi, goddess of wealth and prosperity — standing in a frontal pose at the centre of the field, richly adorned with traditional jewellery and regalia, set against a stylised globe or wheel motif rendered with geometric segments suggesting worldwide reach. The inscription 'नेपाल बैंक लिमिटेड' (Nepal Bank Limited) arcs along the upper field in Devanagari script, while the jubilee dates 'जयन्ती १९३८–२०३८' (commemorating the bank's 50th anniversary in Bikram Sambat years) appear along the lower left field. The denomination 'रु ५००' and the word 'NEPAL' in Latin script are inscribed beneath the central deity within the globe device. The design is framed by a beaded border consistent with the obverse.

Additional information

Nepal's 500 rupee silver issues of 1987 were struck to commemorate King Birendra Bir Bikram, who had assumed the throne in 1972 following the death of his father Mahendra. Birendra's reign was defined by political turbulence — the 1990 pro-democracy movement forced him to abandon the partyless Panchayat system and accept constitutional monarchy, a concession that reshaped the country within three years of this coin's minting.

Birendra was killed in the royal massacre of June 2001, when Crown Prince Dipendra shot and killed nine members of the royal family before turning the weapon on himself.
