Reverse description Central field features a highly stylised and finely detailed Bo (Bodhi) tree leaf rendered in an ornate decorative manner, rising from a tiered ceremonial platform or railing, symbolising the sacred Sri Maha Bodhi brought to Sri Lanka by Sanghamitta Theri. The denomination 500 in Sinhala numerals appears on a banner at the base of the platform. The surrounding legend, divided between the upper and lower arcs, reads SHRI LANKA in Latin at the top with the equivalent in Sinhala and Tamil scripts, flanked by the dual dates 2537 (Buddhist era) and 1993 (Common era) on either side, and FIVE HUNDRED RUPEES in Latin along the lower arc, all within a beaded border.
