| Comments |
The Maldives Monetary Authority introduced polymer substrate for this denomination as part of a broader security upgrade, with De La Rue supplying the substrate — almost certainly Safeguard® polymer — alongside the print contract. The transparent window is integrated into the substrate itself rather than applied separately, which is standard for De La Rue polymer production but represents a meaningful step up from the earlier cotton-paper series for a jurisdiction historically vulnerable to note degradation in humid, salt-air conditions.
Pick 30 is the first 500 Rufiyaa issued on polymer, replacing a cotton note that had been prone to accelerated wear in the resort island economy where high-denomination notes pass through many hands quickly.
