The Terek Cossack Army issued its own currency in 1918 as Bolshevik forces fragmented financial authority across the North Caucasus. Mozdok was the seat of the Terek People's Republic at the time — a short-lived Soviet-aligned entity that briefly displaced the Cossack command — which makes the attribution of local printing here historically loaded. The Cossack administration was fighting a civil war on multiple fronts simultaneously, including against Bolshevik Terek separatists and encroaching Red Army units.
Notes of this emission were produced under severe material constraints and show it. Paper quality varied considerably across the print run.
