| Reverse description | Printed on silk with woven fringed borders, the reverse carries a central radiating star or sunburst vignette flanked symmetrically by two flag-topped urn-shaped cartouches containing Arabic inscriptions. Khorezm — the short-lived Soviet satellite carved out of the former Khanate of Khiva in 1920 — issued currency almost immediately after its founding, and the material choices reflect genuine resource constraints rather than aesthetic ambition. Silk was used in place of paper because paper simply wasn't reliably available in this part of Central Asia at the time.
The republic itself lasted only until 1923, when it was reorganized as the Khorezm Soviet People's Republic before being absorbed into the USSR. The entire note-issuing period was compressed into a few chaotic years, and surviving examples on silk have held up unpredictably — the material resists folding damage but is vulnerable to fraying at edges.
