Obverse description The obverse presents an intricate composition centred on traditional Islamic geometric guilloche patterns interwoven with Qatari floral motifs (Dreama), with the State of Qatar flag rendered in the upper field. An ornate gate evoking historical Qatari vernacular architecture anchors the central vignette, set against a multi-colour underprint in violet and gold tones. Inscriptions in Arabic and the issuing authority's name appear within a structured border of fine-line security printing.

Comments

Qatar's shift to a hybrid substrate for this denomination was part of a broader regional move away from pure cotton-based paper — hybrid notes resist moisture and folding damage more effectively, a practical consideration in Gulf climates where notes cycle through air-conditioned interiors and extreme outdoor heat repeatedly within a single day's circulation.

Thomas De La Rue has printed Qatari currency since the Qatar & Dubai Currency Board issues of the 1960s, making this a long-standing commercial relationship that predates the Central Bank's establishment in 2006.
