Obverse description A circular guilloche cartouche at right encloses a vignette of a traditional dhow under sail at sea, surmounted by the Qatar Central Bank arms; the Arabic denomination خمسمائة ريال occupies the centre in large numerals and script against a dense multicolour guilloche underprint of interlocking floral and geometric motifs. Two signature lines for the Minister of Finance and the Governor are positioned at lower centre, with serial numbers in Arabic-Indic numerals printed vertically at left and horizontally at lower right.

Reverse description An intaglio vignette of an offshore jack-up oil drilling platform at sea dominates the centre, rendered in fine line engraving against a light guilloche underprint in blue and green tones. The English value inscription FIVE HUNDRED RIYALS runs horizontally along the upper register, while QATAR CENTRAL BANK is set vertically along the right margin; numeral 500 appears in the upper corners against a multicolour guilloche background.
