Obverse description At left, a finely engraved vignette of the Ka'aba within Masjid al-Haram, Mecca, is surmounted by the Arabic inscription of the Saudi Arabian Monetary Agency. A central portrait of King Abdulaziz bin Abdulrahman Al Saud is flanked by two serial numbers in contrasting ink, with the denomination in Arabic script below; at right, the name of King Fahd bin Abdulaziz Al-Saud and the Royal Decree date are inscribed, while the Minister of Finance's signature appears at the lower margin above an intaglio guilloche underprint.
Obverse lettering البنك المركزي السعودي - المؤسسة العربية السعودية النقدية - خمسمائة ريال
Reverse description The central vignette presents a detailed aerial view of al-Masjid al-Haram, the Grand Mosque of Mecca, with minarets and surrounding colonnades executed in fine intaglio engraving. The denomination numeral '500' is printed at both the left and right margins, accompanied by Arabic and English denomination inscriptions. The Saudi national emblem — crossed swords surmounted by a palm tree — appears at the lower right.
