| Reverse description | Central device displays the imperial arms of Brazil: a crowned shield bearing an armillary sphere encircled by a ring of nineteen stars representing the provinces of the Empire, set against a horizontally lined field. The Imperial Crown of Brazil surmounts the shield at top center. The shield is flanked on either side by symmetrical branches of coffee and tobacco, tied together at the base with a ribbon bow, forming a full wreath around the composition. The abbreviated motto IN HOC S. VINCES — a Latin phrase meaning 'In this sign thou shalt conquer' — is inscribed in the upper field along the inner rim, referencing the motto of Constantine the Great. |
