| Obverse description | The obverse presents an equestrian effigy of Queen Elizabeth II in military dress uniform, seated upright on a walking horse facing left, rendered in high relief within a raised inner circle. The composition is engraved by John Bergdahl, whose initials 'JB' appear in the lower right of the inner field. Surrounding the central equestrian portrait, the inner border carries the motto of the Order of the Garter: '·HONI·SOIT·QUI·MAL·Y·PENSE·'. The outer legend reads 'ELIZABETH II·D·G·REG·F·D·500 POUNDS' with the date '2022' positioned along the lower rim, all in incuse Latin lettering against the mirror-polished proof field. |
