Comments

The Banco Central de la República Dominicana's decision to print its own notes in-house was a significant shift for an institution that had previously relied on foreign security printers. By 1991, the Central Bank had developed sufficient in-house capacity to produce the higher denominations — a matter of both cost and national policy during a period when the Dominican peso was under sustained inflationary pressure.

The 500 Pesos Oro sat at the top of the circulating series at the time of issue, a denomination that only became practical as inflation eroded lower values through the late 1980s.
