Obverse lettering EL BANCO DE LA REPÚBLICA ORIENTAL del URUGUAY PAGARÁ AL PORTADOR Y A LA VISTA LA CANTIDAD DE 500 QUINIENTOS PESOS EN MONEDA LEGAL DE ORO SELLADO LEY DE 4 DE AGOSTO DE 1896 MONTEVIDEO, Septiembre de 1914
(Translation: The bank of the Oriental Republic of Uruguay will pay to the bearer and at sight the amount of 500 five hundred Pesos on legal currency of sealed gold Law of August 4th., 1896 Montevideo, September 1914)
Reverse description The Uruguayan coat of arms is centrally placed within an oval guilloche vignette, surrounded by elaborate lathe-work and lace-pattern underprint in purple. The numeral '500' and the word 'QUINIENTOS' repeat symmetrically in the four corners, with the issuer's name arching around the central device in two concentric bands.
