| Obverse description | Draped bust of Jorge Juan, the celebrated 18th-century Spanish naval officer and scientist, facing three-quarters to the right, depicted wearing a powdered wig and period naval dress with lace jabot. The effigy is set within a beaded inner circle, with the royal legend JUAN CARLOS I REY DE ESPAÑA arching around the upper periphery. The date 1991 appears in the lower field below the portrait, flanked by small floral ornaments, all enclosed within a double beaded border. |
