| Obverse description | The obverse carries an intaglio vignette of Cardinal Francisco Jiménez de Cisneros in three-quarter portrait at upper centre-left, labelled "CARDENAL CISNEROS" beneath, set against a view of Toledo Cathedral rendered in grey-green intaglio at lower left. The header bears the issuer legend "EL BANCO DE ESPAÑA" in bold letterpress across the top, with the denomination "QUINIENTAS PESETAS" in large intaglio lettering at centre.
