Additional information

Macau's gold lunar issues of this period were produced under Portuguese administration, just seven years before the 1999 handover to China. The 1992 monkey issue belongs to a series that began in the mid-1980s and was aimed squarely at the Hong Kong and Southeast Asian collector market, where demand for gold lunar pieces was intensifying as the handover deadline approached and buyers sought portable, politically neutral stores of value.
