The curved legend '40º GRANDE PRÉMIO' arcs along the upper field in Latin script, with Chinese characters '門' and '澳' flanking the racing imagery to left and right respectively. Macau's Grand Prix commemoratives mark the annual street race held on the Guia Circuit since 1954 — one of the few remaining urban circuits where Formula Three and GT machinery share the same narrow colonial streets. The 1993 edition of the race was won by Rickard Rydell, though the commemorative program itself had been running since the mid-1980s, well before the handover negotiations with China had concluded.
KM#64 is among the lighter gold issues in the Macanese commemorative series, struck in the final decade of Portuguese administration.
