The Chinese characters 中國銀行 and the bilingual issuer name BANCO DA CHINA appear across the upper field, while the Chinese denomination 伍佰圓 and its Portuguese equivalent QUINHENTAS PATACAS are rendered in bold intaglio at centre-left. Administrative decree references, the date '8 DE DEZEMBRO DE 2003', and the printed facsimile signature of the Macau Branch Director-General occupy the lower portion.
