Macau's Grand Prix, run on a temporary street circuit since 1954, became one of the few races outside Europe to attract Formula 3 teams of genuine international caliber by the early 1990s. The 40th running in 1993 drew Ayrton Senna comparisons in the commentary — the circuit's signature Lisboa corner had already ended several promising careers. At 155.6 grams of .999 silver, this is unambiguously a collector's piece rather than anything approaching circulation, part of a series the Monetary Authority used consistently through the 1980s and 1990s to target the overseas Portuguese commemorative market.
