| Additional information |
Issued in direct response to the Turkish military intervention of July–August 1974, this coin was part of a broader fundraising effort by the Cypriot government to support the roughly 160,000 Greek Cypriot displaced persons who fled or were expelled from the north. The reverse dedication made it the first coin in Cypriot history to carry an explicit political message tied to an ongoing territorial dispute.
Circulation was limited by design — most were sold at a premium to collectors and sympathizers abroad, functioning closer to a levy than a trade coin.
