Obverse description Plain cream paper note printed in black letterpress throughout, enclosed within a dotted rectangular border. The denomination FÜNFHUNDERT MARK is set in large capitals across the top, flanked by the numeral 500 at each side; the issuing authority STADT MANNHEIM appears in bold majuscules at centre. A faint embossed municipal seal is visible to the lower left, accompanied by a manuscript signature and a red serial number in the lower right quadrant. Three lines of smaller text at the foot state the conditions of redemption and the deadline of 1 March 1923.

Reverse description The reverse is printed in green on cream paper, with the design composed entirely of typographic elements and ruled line underprints. Horizontal parallel line bands occupy the upper, middle, and lower portions of the field, creating a striped guilloche-like underprint in green. The denomination 500 MARK 500 appears in spaced capitals within the upper and lower line-band registers, while MANNHEIM is set in large widely-spaced capitals at the vertical centre, flanked by small rosette ornaments.
