Obverse description Left-facing portrait bust of Saparmurat Niyazov, first and lifelong President of Turkmenistan, rendered in high relief against a mirror-polished field. The effigy is unadorned, depicted in civilian dress with naturalistically detailed hair. A circular legend in Latin script surrounds the portrait, reading above "TÜRKMENISTANYŇ ILKINJI WE ÖMÜRLIK PREZIDENTI" and below "SAPARMYRAT NYÝAZOW". Two crossed olive or laurel branches flank the lower portion of the portrait, framing the subject's name and lending a formal, heraldic character to the composition.
