Comments

The Dette Publique Ottomane's late wartime issues, including this 500 Livres Turques, were produced under severe material constraints — by 1918 the Ottoman printing infrastructure had deteriorated badly, and some denominations in this series were printed domestically rather than relying on the pre-war French and German contractors who had supplied earlier issues. The empire was months from dissolution when this note entered circulation.

High-denomination Ottoman notes from this period are disproportionately rare in collectable condition because hyperinflationary pressure drove rapid, rough handling. Notes passed through many hands quickly and were often bundled, folded, and annotated.
