Obverse description Three stylized medieval crenellated towers — the Three Towers of San Marino — rendered in a bold, modernist sculptural style occupying the central field. The legend REPUBLICA DI SAN MARINO curves along the upper periphery. The date 1972 appears in the lower field, flanked to the left by the engraver's signature (Manzu) and to the right by the incuse inscription G.M. INC.

Reverse description A seated woman, rendered in an expressive modernist style by sculptor Giacomo Manzu, lifts a naked infant above her head with outstretched arms, the child's body arched upward in a gesture of joy or offering. The composition fills the central and upper field with strong sculptural relief. The denomination legend L500 is inscribed in the lower right field.
