Comments

The 500 Lira series of this period exists in two distinct varieties: notes with the "SERİ" prefix printed before the serial number, and those — like this example — without it. The absence of the prefix is not a misdirection or error; it reflects an early print run before the format was standardized, making the "without SERİ" type the scarcer of the two. Bradbury Wilkinson produced the plate work in London, the firm then at the height of its long run of Ottoman and Turkish currency contracts.
