The Liberation Front committees along the Soča/Isonzo valley issued their own emergency currency during the German occupation of the Slovenian Littoral — territory that had been under Italian rule since 1920 and was annexed into the Reich's Operational Zone Adriatic Coast in 1943. The Kanal district committee's notes were instruments of a parallel economy, used to pay partisans and supply local networks outside the reach of occupation finances.
Pick 129A is one of several denominations issued by different district committees in this region, and attribution can be tricky — the issuing authority names varied slightly between localities and printings. Paper quality and hand-stamping methods differed across batches.
