Obverse description Facing bust of George Enescu, the celebrated Romanian composer and musician, rendered in high relief with fine portrait detail including wavy hair and jacket with collar and tie. The legend GEORGE ENESCU arcs along the left field, while the birth and death years 1881 - 1955 appear in the upper right. A facsimile of Enescu's personal signature is engraved in the right field. The deeply mirrored proof fields contrast sharply with the frosted devices.

Additional information

Pattern issues from the National Bank of Romania's early 2000s commemorative program were produced in multiple metal variants — brass, silver, and gold — as submission pieces for internal approval before an official composition was confirmed. Stamb#P606.1 designates the brass striking, which was never released to the public. George Enescu, the composer and violinist this piece honors, died in Paris in 1955 and was buried at Père Lachaise; Romania reclaimed his cultural significance aggressively during the communist period, though this issue postdates that era entirely.
