Obverse description The central field displays the Zambian coat of arms in high relief, featuring a quartered shield with wavy horizontal lines flanked by two human supporters — a man to the left and a woman to the right — both standing on a grassy base. An African fish eagle with spread wings surmounts the shield as a crest, and a scroll at the base bears the national motto ONE ZAMBIA ONE NATION. The legend ZAMBIA arcs along the upper periphery, the date 1994 is divided across the field with 19 to the left and 94 to the right of the shield, and the denomination 500 KWACHA appears in the lower legend.
