Obverse description Central field displays the elaborate calligraphic toughra of Sultan Mehmed VI, its sweeping vertical strokes and interlaced loops rendered in fine relief against a plain field. A row of eleven five-pointed stars arcs across the upper portion of the field above the toughra. An open laurel and olive wreath frames the lower half of the design, its stems tied at the base with a ribbon bow flanked by floral ornaments. The regnal year numeral appears within the wreath below the toughra, with the denomination 500 inscribed at the very bottom of the field in Arabic-Eastern numerals. The entire design is bordered by a finely beaded rim.
