Issued to mark Queen Margrethe II's 50th jubilee on the Danish throne, this coin commemorates an accession that itself was historically significant — when Margrethe took the throne on 14 January 1972 following Frederik IX's death, she became the first Queen Regnant of Denmark since Margrethe I in the 15th century. The half-century milestone proved to be among her last as reigning monarch; she abdicated on 14 January 2024, ending a reign of exactly 52 years to the day.
