| Obverse description | A naturalistic scene depicting two Tatra chamois (Rupicapra rupicapra tatrica) amid rocky alpine terrain; a larger adult chamois stands prominently in the upper field facing left, while a smaller juvenile stands to the lower left. In the lower right field, a spray of edelweiss (Leontopodium alpinum) flowers is rendered in fine relief. The shield-shaped coat of arms of the Slovak Republic appears in the lower left field. The legend SLOVENSKÁ REPUBLIKA arcs across the lower field in two lines, with the date 1999 below, and the engraver's initials MV appear to the right of the floral motif. |

Issued to mark the 50th anniversary of Tatra National Park — Slovakia's oldest, established in 1949 along the border with Poland where the two countries jointly administer the High Tatras ecosystem. The Slovak side, TANAP, and its Polish counterpart TOPR were among the earliest cross-border conservation agreements in postwar Central Europe, a practical arrangement that survived the entire Cold War period without serious interruption.
