| Additional information |
The Slovenský Raj — Slovak Paradise — is a karst plateau in the Western Carpathians, designated a national park in 1988, just a year before Czechoslovakia's Velvet Revolution. This coin appeared in 1994, Slovakia's second year as an independent state following the peaceful dissolution of the federation on January 1, 1993. The new National Bank of Slovakia moved quickly to establish a commemorative program, and natural heritage subjects dominated early issues as a matter of deliberate national identity-building.
KM#28 is a proof-only release with relatively modest distribution figures typical of the early Slovak commemorative series.
