Issued to mark the 165th anniversary of Štúr's birth, this coin commemorates the Slovak linguist and nationalist whose 1843 codification of a standard Slovak literary language remains the direct ancestor of modern written Slovak. The choice to honor Štúr on a Czechoslovak state issue carried quiet political weight — Slovak cultural identity was a perpetually managed tension within the federation, and framing Štúr as a shared heritage figure rather than a separatist symbol required careful official framing.
KM#105 was struck at the Czech Mint in Jablonec nad Nisou.
