Additional information

This coin was issued as part of Slovakia's long-running silver 500 Korún commemorative series, which the Národná banka Slovenska maintained through the final years of the koruna before euro adoption on 1 January 2009. The Low Tatras issue was effectively one of the last commemoratives struck in the national currency — Slovakia entered the Eurozone just months after release, making the entire 500 Korún series a closed chapter almost immediately.

Low Tatras National Park, established in 1978, is the largest national park in Slovakia by area.
