| Reverse description | A charming winter village scene, inspired by the folk-art paintings of Czech artist Josef Lada, occupies the central field, depicting children building a snowman in front of traditional rural cottages set against a snow-covered landscape. The design is rendered in a naive, illustrative style faithful to Lada's distinctive artistic idiom. The legend 'JOSEF LADA' appears in the field, flanked by the dates '1887' and '1987' marking the centenary of the artist's birth. |

Josef Lada, the illustrator inseparable from Jaroslav Hašek's Good Soldier Švejk, died in 1957 — making 1987 the thirtieth anniversary of his death and the occasion for this issue. The Czechoslovak State Bank regularly used commemorative silver series to honor cultural figures during the normalization period, a practice that served domestic prestige purposes while producing coins rarely seen in actual circulation. Lada was a safe choice: folkloric, politically uncomplicated, beloved.
Struck at the Kremnica Mint, which had operated continuously since 1328.
