| Obverse description | The obverse features the Czech coat of arms displayed prominently at center within a square frame, rendered in fine relief. The quartered shield bears the Bohemian lion, the Moravian eagle, and the Silesian eagle, faithfully reproducing the national heraldic device. Surrounding the central escutcheon is a geometric Art Deco-inspired border of concentric angular motifs filling the field. The legend ČESKÁ REPUBLIKA arcs above in two lines, with the denomination 500 Kč inscribed beneath it in the upper portion of the field. The mint mark ČM appears to the right of the coat of arms. |

The Constitutional Court of the Czech Republic, established under the 1993 constitution drafted following the dissolution of Czechoslovakia, sits in Brno rather than Prague — a deliberate choice to distribute institutional authority away from the capital. The court gained particular international attention in 2008 when it struck down the Czech government's ratification of the Lisbon Treaty, one of very few constitutional courts in Europe to challenge the document directly.
