| Reverse description | A perspective view of the Banco Central del Paraguay headquarters building occupies the central field, depicted in detailed architectural relief with flanking structures and tropical palm trees at its base. The large numeral 500 appears prominently in the lower portion of the central device, with GUARANIES inscribed along the lower rim below. The legend BANCO CENTRAL DEL PARAGUAY arcs along the upper periphery in raised Latin lettering. The design is set within a raised border ring that separates the central motif from the outer legend area, giving the reverse a distinctly modern, two-tier compositional structure. |

Paraguay's 500 Guaraníes denomination has existed in various forms since the catastrophic inflation of the late 20th century steadily eroded smaller denominations into irrelevance. The nickel-steel composition adopted for this type replaced an earlier brass-plated steel version, a change driven by durability concerns and counterfeiting pressure on a denomination that, by the 2000s, was worth less than a tenth of a U.S. cent.
The long production window across thirteen years suggests consistent demand without significant redesign pressure — a coin that simply worked.
