| Obverse description | Central allegorical scene celebrating Haitian art, depicting three figures in a composition inspired by traditional Haitian folk art: a seminude female figure seated at left with arm raised, a male figure wearing a ceremonial mask at center, and a seated male artist at right engaged in painting or sculpting. Behind the figures rises a central staff adorned with a palm frond canopy and decorative ironwork scrollwork, evoking Vodou vèvè symbolism. The legend REPUBLIQUE D'HAÏTI arcs along the upper periphery, and L'ART HAÏTIEN appears along the lower periphery, both separated from the field by a beaded border. |

The upper legend LIBERTE EGALITE FRATERNITE arcs along the periphery, while the denomination 500 GOURDES and the date 1970 appear in the lower field. Fineness indicators 585 and 390 along with the mint initials IC are also present in the lower field. The design is framed by a beaded border. |
