Additional information

Issued under the Duvalier government as part of a series aimed squarely at foreign collectors and investors rather than domestic circulation, this piece never meaningfully entered the Haitian economy. Jean-Claude Duvalier had inherited power from his father in 1971, and the early years of "Baby Doc's" presidency saw a calculated push to generate hard currency through commemorative gold issues sold through European numismatic distributors — hence the market designation.

Virtually all known examples are uncirculated, having passed directly from mint to dealer to collection.
