Additional information

Haiti's Olympic gold series was authorized under Jean-Claude Duvalier, who had inherited the presidency from his father François ("Papa Doc") in 1971 at age nineteen. The coins were part of a broader strategy of using commemorative issues to generate hard currency through foreign collector markets — a revenue stream the Duvalier governments relied on heavily, given the country's near-total exclusion from conventional international finance.

The dual KM references reflect two distinct emission dates: 1974 and 1975, with the coins anticipating Games held in 1976. Franklin Mint handled production under contract.
