Additional information

Cameroon's post-independence coinage authority has periodically issued silver pieces through the Monnaie de Paris under licensing arrangements that have little to do with domestic monetary policy and everything to do with the international collector market. These coins do not circulate within Cameroon and are struck expressly for export sale, a practice common among smaller francophone African states whose numismatic programs are effectively administered from Europe.

The 17.50g weight at .999 fineness is a deliberately non-standard specification, chosen to hit a retail price point rather than conform to any historic weight standard.
