Issues like this one — a central African nation licensing European mythology for a bullion or collector piece — are purely commercial products driven by the international numismatic novelty market, not by any policy or monetary need. The Bank of the Republic of Burundi has been a prolific issuer of such themed collector coins since the 2010s, essentially functioning as a mint-for-hire vehicle for foreign distributors.
