| Obverse description | The obverse features the coat of arms of Cameroon centrally placed, depicting a shield bearing scales of justice above a map of Africa, flanked by two crossed fasces and supported by crossed laurel branches, with a five-pointed star in chief. The entire field is covered with an intricate wavy line pattern rendered in black ruthenium, evoking water or cosmic waves. The bilingual legend REPUBLIQUE DU CAMEROUN arcs around the upper periphery in stylized raised lettering, while the motto PAIX TRAVAIL PATRIE and its English equivalents PEACE WORK FATHERLAND appear flanking the arms. The BEAC issues currency on behalf of six member states — Cameroon, Central African Republic, Chad, Gabon, Equatorial Guinea, and the Republic of the Congo — all of whom share the CFA franc under a monetary agreement with France that fixes the exchange rate to the euro. This Neptune piece is part of a collector series with no circulation mandate; it was struck for the international numismatic market rather than for any of those economies.
The combination of black ruthenium plating with selective gilding is applied post-strike, a finishing technique that became fashionable among European minting houses in the 2010s and has since been widely contracted out to the Monnaie de Paris and B.H. Mayer's Kunstprägeanstalt, the latter of which handles a significant share of BEAC's collector output.
