Additional information

Guinea issued this coin as part of a broader commemorative series released shortly after Sékou Touré's government had severed ties with the French franc zone in 1960, establishing the Guinean franc as a fully independent currency — a move France punished by withdrawing all technical and financial assistance almost overnight. Nasser's inclusion reflects the pan-African and pan-Arab solidarity politics Touré cultivated aggressively throughout the 1960s.

Nasser had died in September 1970, making this almost certainly a posthumous tribute issued within weeks or months of his death.
